Tanzimat itibariyle dilimize çoğu Fransızca kökenli yeni kelimeler girmiştir. Tanzimat’tan sonra aydınlarımız dile yeni giren bu yabancı kelimeler üzerinde çok fazla durmuştur. Disiplinler arası önem teşkil etmekte olan bazı kelimeleri de öne çıkarmaya çalışmışlardır. Ali Canip Yöntem’de yazdığı makaleleri ile bu çalışmalara destek vermiş, “épique”, “épopée”,“epos”, “epic”, “légende”, “üstûre” vb. kavramlar etrafında düşünmüş ve bu kavramlara Türkçe karşılık bulmaya çalışmıştır.
