Abstract

This book review critically evaluates Digital Transformation in Aviation Industry Operations, edited by Dutta, Ricciuti, Bogrekci, and Suseelan. It uses a qualitative document-review approach based on the volume’s preface, table of contents, and accessible chapter material. The review finds that the collection provides a broad and current map of digital aviation technologies, including artificial intelligence, connected systems, navigation, energy, sustainable aviation fuels, and an updated SHELL model. However, despite its operational framing, the volume gives limited attention to the work design of airline and airport personnel, automation reliance, skill retention, data governance, and safety assurance. The book offers a valuable entry point to technical digitalisation in aviation, but should be read alongside research on human performance and safety management.
