Abstract

This study aims to examine the professional burnout levels of middle school teachers and investigate whether these levels significantly differ according to various demographic and professional variables. Adopting a quantitative approach with a comparative survey design, the research was conducted with a sample of 840 teachers working in the central districts of Ankara, selected through a multi-stage sampling method. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). The data were analyzed using independent samples t-tests and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results revealed that participating teachers reported moderate levels of emotional exhaustion, while burnout levels in the depersonalization and reduced personal accomplishment dimensions were found to be low. While no significant difference was found based on educational level, statistically significant differences were observed across various dimensions in relation to gender, age, marital status, professional seniority, subject branch, and the district of employment. These findings provide empirically grounded insights for designing targeted interventions and evidence-based policies that address the structural, contextual, and individual determinants of professional burnout among teachers.
