Abstract
This study examined the relationship between teachers’ reasons for joining unions and their perceptions of organizational dissent among union-member teachers working in public and private schools. The research was designed using the correlational survey model, a quantitative research method. The population consisted of 8,600 teachers working in the city center of Elazığ during the 2023–2024 academic year, while the sample included 383 volunteer teachers selected through criterion sampling. Data were collected using the Reasons for Unionization Scale (Uğurlu and Arslan, 2020) and the Organizational Dissent Scale (Dağlı, 2015). Since the data showed a normal distribution, parametric tests were used for analysis. Findings indicated that teachers’ perceptions of unionization were at the “agree” level, while their perceptions of organizational dissent were at the “largely agree” level. Significant differences were found in union membership reasons according to certain demographic variables, and in organizational dissent perceptions according to age, seniority, and education level. In addition, a weak negative relationship was found between teachers’ reasons for union membership and organizational dissent. Regression analysis showed that reasons for union membership negatively predicted organizational dissent.
