Abstract

Rapid and uncontrolled urbanization poses a serious threat to both biodiversity and overall ecosystem health by fragmenting natural habitats into increasingly smaller, isolated parts. In this study, Green Infrastructure planning and its fundamental component, ecological corridors, have been examined to re-establish ecological continuity and connectivity at the landscape scale. The foundation of the research integrates landscape ecology concepts, particularly Forman's pioneering Patch-Corridor-Matrix model, with the fundamental conceptual distinction between structural and functional connectivity. In this research, Morphological Spatial Pattern Analysis, Least Cost Path analysis, and Circuit Theory, which provide a scientific and objective basis for ecological network planning, have been examined. The findings revealed the role of landscape architecture in synthesizing interdisciplinary knowledge, facilitating stakeholder participation, and advocating for embedded ecological values in these complex, multi-actor processes. Concrete applications demonstrate that ecological corridors are not merely static physical structures but dynamic systems requiring long-term monitoring and management.
