Abstract

Background: Caring culture is an important organizational construct that shapes nurses’ perceptions of their work environment. The nature of this cultural structure can play a decisive role in nurses’ workplace happiness. The limited number of studies that directly examine the relationship between these two variables in the literature indicates the need for more comprehensive research on the topic. Objectives: To examine the predictive role of caring culture perception on workplace happiness. Methods: The sample for this cross-sectional study consists of 208 nurses working throughout Turkey, selected using a convenience sampling method between November 2023 and February 2024. Data were collected online through a demographic information form, the Caring Culture Survey, and the Happiness at Work Scale. Ethical committee approval was obtained for the study. Data analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS Statistics v.26. One-way ANOVA, Student’s t-test, and the Mann–Whitney U test were used to compare individual and professional characteristics and mean scale scores. Pearson’s correlation analysis and hierarchical multiple linear regression analysis were employed to examine the relationships between the measures. Results: The mean score of the Caring Culture Survey among nurses was found to be at a moderate-to-high level (4.84 ± 1.03), while the mean score of the Happiness at Work Scale was at a moderate level (2.88 ± .86). Correlation analysis revealed positive, moderate, and statistically significant relationships between the total and subscale mean scores of both instruments (p < .05). In the hierarchical regression analysis, the inclusion of caring culture variables significantly increased the explained variance in workplace happiness (ΔR² = .325; p < .05), and the total caring culture score emerged as a strong predictor of workplace happiness (β = .656; p < .05). When the subdimensions were entered simultaneously, personal caring was identified as the strongest predictor (p < .05). Conclusion: The study demonstrated that nurses’ perception of caring culture is an important predictor of workplace happiness. It may be recommended that nurse managers focus on strengthening the caring culture and creating supportive work environments to enhance nurses’ workplace happiness.
