Abstract
This study aims to examine posters related to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in the context of graphic design, focusing on their iconographic, semiotic, and visual meaning-making. In the research, seven posters representing different articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights were evaluated using document analysis within the scope of qualitative research methods. The theoretical foundation of the study is based on Panofsky’s iconological analysis approach. During the analysis process, the posters were examined in terms of iconographic elements, color usage, compositional structure, and visual narrative dimensions. The findings indicate that symbolic elements used in the posters—such as child figures, hands, birds, scales, stairs, maps, and light—represent concepts like freedom, equality, justice, solidarity, and universality through visual metaphors. Additionally, it was determined that colors function not only as aesthetic elements but also as visual indicators that support the production of psychological and ideological meanings. It was found that warm colors evoke a sense of movement and attention, cool colors reinforce feelings of security and balance, and black-and-white contrast strengthens the emphasis on anonymity and universality. In conclusion, the study demonstrates that UDHR posters are multi-layered visual communication tools that produce cultural and ideological meanings.
