The syntactical structure of the modern Arabic prose is a significant investigation area with respect to linguistic analysis and teaching Arabic as a foreign language. However, it is seen that syntactical examinations that prioritize modern literary texts are not sufficient. Within this frame Vicente Cantarino’s work, Syntax of Modern Arabic Prose which focuses on modern Arabic prose is an important work of its era. In this study, the syntactic approach of Vicente Cantarino’s three-volume work is examined. The fact that the aforementioned work, as well as analyzing the syntactical structure of the Arabic prose, constitutes an important resource that can be used in teaching Arabic as a foreign language has served as the main reason behind the examining of this article. The purpose of this study is to present the contribution of Syntax of Modern Arabic Prose to teaching of Arabic as well as analysis of the literary texts. The mentioned three-volume work is reviewed and the literary richness in the selected material is examined linguistically. It is seen that the author used a sufficient number of sample sentences in his work and that these samples are compiled from the modern literary works. Vicente Cantarino oriented himself to the modern literary texts emphasizing that the compilations related to the classical Arabic language do not or may not sufficiently represent the modern literary language. As a result of the study it is understood that Cantarino went beyond the classical structures and developed semantic-centered and context-focused syntactic approach which is accepted as an important concept in linguistics education and text analysis. Çağdaş Arap nesrinin sözdizimsel yapısı, dilbilimsel çözümlemeler ve yabancı dil olarak Arapça öğretimi bakımından önemli bir inceleme alanı teşkil etmektedir. Buna rağmen, modern edebî metinleri önceleyen sözdizimsel incelemelerin yeterli düzeyde olmadığı görülmektedir. Bu çerçevede Vicente Cantarino’nun Syntax of Modern Arabic Prose (Modern Arap Nesrinin Sözdizimi) adlı eseri, modern Arap nesrini merkeze alan yaklaşımıyla döneminde önemli bir yaklaşım ortaya koymuştur. Bu çalışmada, Vicente Cantarino’nun söz konusu üç ciltlik eserinde benimsediği sentaktik yaklaşım incelenmiştir. Eserin, modern Arap nesrinin sözdizimsel yapısını sistematik biçimde tahlil etmesinin yanı sıra Arapçanın yabancı dil olarak öğretiminde kullanılabilecek önemli bir kaynak niteliğine sahip olması, bu makalenin ele alınmasının esas gerekçesini oluşturmuştur. Çalışmanın amacı, Syntax of Modern Arabic Prose ’nin Arapçanın öğretimine ayrıca edebî metinlerin tahliline sağlayacağı katkıları ortaya koymaktır. Bu doğrultuda eser, nitel araştırma yöntemi çerçevesinde betimleyici ve yorumlayıcı bir yaklaşımla incelenmiş; seçilen örneklerdeki edebî zenginlik dilbilimsel bir yaklaşım çerçevesinde ele alınmıştır. Buna ek olarak söz konusu eserdeki örneklerin seçimi, kullanım sıklığı ve bağlamsal fonksiyonları göz önüne alınarak değerlendirilmiştir. Yazarın çalışmasında yeterli sayıda örnek cümle kullandığı ve bu örnekleri modern edebî eserlerden derlediği görülmüştür. Vicente Cantarino, özellikle klasik Arapçaya dair derlemelerin mevcudiyetine rağmen çağdaş edebî dilin yeterince temsil edilmediğini ya da edilemediğini vurgulayarak modern edebî metinlere yönelmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda Cantarino’nun klasik kalıpları aşarak dilbilimde, eğitimde ve metin çözümlemesinde önemli bir kavram olarak kabul görmüş anlam merkezli ve bağlam odaklı bir sentaks yaklaşımı geliştirdiği anlaşılmıştır.
