Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the extent to which digital citizenship and its sub-dimensions are included in the learning outcomes of the 2024 Maarif Model Social Studies course. The documentary survey method, a qualitative research design, was used to collect data. The data source for the study consists of the social studies curriculum implemented by the Ministry of National Education in 2024. Learning outcomes at different grade levels and learning areas in the social studies curriculum were analyzed according to the determined categories, considering the sub-dimensions of digital citizenship. The data obtained in the study were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The research results showed that the program included more learning outcomes addressing media literacy and relationships and communication sub-dimensions of digital citizenship, while less emphasis was placed on learning outcomes addressing digital footprint and identity sub-dimensions. When learning outcomes were examined at the grade level, digital citizenship sub-dimensions were most frequently included in the 6th grade and least in the 4th grade. It was observed that the sub-dimensions of digital citizenship were included in a similar number of learning areas within the program. One learning outcome encompassing all sub-dimensions was found in the program. Two learning outcomes do not align with any of the sub-dimensions of digital citizenship. The findings indicate that the 2024 social studies curriculum considers the impact of technology on children's daily lives and includes learning outcomes designed to support students' development as ethical, safe, and responsible citizens in digital environments. In light of all the results, it can be argued that the 2024 social studies curriculum contributes to developing digital citizens.
