Abstract

Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the effects of health promotion behaviors on physical performance and quality of life in the elderly. Materials and Methods: A total of 203 elderly individuals aged 65 and over who scored 24 or more on the Mini Mental State Test (MMST) were included in the study. Data were collected from January to March 2023. A form evaluating sociodemographic characteristics at the data collection stage, ‘’Geriatric Health Promotion Scale (GHPS)’’in the evaluation of health promotion behaviors, and “Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB) subtests” in the evaluation of physical performance; “2.4 (8 steps) Walk Gait Speed Test (2.4MWGST) “Standing Tests (ST)” and “Five Repetition Sit to Stand Test (5RSST) were used to evaluate the quality of life with “EQ- The 5D-3L General Quality of Life Scale was used. Results: It was found that there was a moderate correlation between GHPS and 2.4MWGST (r=.586, p=.000), ST (r=.462, p=.000) and 5RSST (r=.468, p=.000). In addition, it was found that there was a good correlation between the GHPS and the total score (r=.651, p=.000). On the other hand, there is a moderate correlation between GHPS and EQ-5D index score (r=.563, p=.000) and a good correlation between EQ- 5D VAS score (r=.637, p=.000). Conclusion: Health promotion behaviors in elderly individuals are associated with physical performance and quality of life. Encouraging the elderly to engage in health promotion behaviors for the positive aging process; It is thought that it can positively affect physical performance and quality of life.

Özet

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı; yaşlılarda sağlığı geliştirme davranışlarının fiziksel performans ve yaşam kalitesine etkisinin incelenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışmaya 65 yaş ve üzeri Mini Mental Durum testi (MMDT)’den 24 ve üzerinde puan alan toplam 203 yaşlı birey dahil edildi. Veriler Ocak-Mart 2023 tarihleri arasında toplandı. Veri toplama aşamasında sosyodemografik özellikleri değerlendiren bir form, sağlığın geliştirilmesi davranışlarının değerlendirilmesinde ‘’Yaşlı Sağlığının Geliştirilmesi Ölçeği (YSGÖ)’’, fiziksel performansın değerlendirilmesinde ‘’Kısa Fiziksel Performans Bataryası (KFPB)’nın alt testleri’’; “2,4 Metre (8 adım) Yürüme Testi (2,4MYT)’’, ‘’Ayakta Duruş Testleri (ADT)’’ ve ‘’5 kez Sandalyeye Otur Kalk Testi (5SOKT)”, yaşam kalitesinin değerlendirilmesinde ‘’EQ-5D-3L Genel Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği’’ kullanıldı.
