Abstract

Objective: The primary objective of this study is to examine the relationship between older women’s attitudes toward technology and their social adaptation processes. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional correlational research design was used in this study. The sample consisted of 197 older women. Data were collected using the Technology Attitude Scale for Older Adults (TechPH) and the Assessment Scale for Adaptation Difficulties in Older Adults (ASADE). Confirmatory factor analyses were conducted to evaluate the construct validity of both scales. The relationship between technology attitudes and social adjustment was examined using simple linear regression analysis. Results: It was demonstrated that the attitude toward technology score is a significant predictor of the social adaptation score (F(195)=20.90, p=0.001). The model explains approximately 9.7% of the total variance in the social adaptation score (R²=0.097, Adjusted R²=0.092). Upon examining the regression coefficient for the attitude toward technology variable, it was found to have a negative and statistically significant relationship with the social adaptation score (B=-0.168, β=-0.311, p=0.001). Based on this result, the regression coefficient for the attitude toward technology variable is a negative and statistically significant predictor of the social adaptation score. Conclusion: The research findings indicate a significant relationship between attitudes toward technology and social adaptation among older women. Although no causal conclusions can be drawn from these findings due to the cross-sectional design, it was observed that older women with weaker ties to technology experienced greater difficulties with social adaptation. In this context, the study contributes to the discussion of supporting older women’s digital skills in terms of social integration and quality of life.
