Abstract

Purpose: We had encountered extreme intraocular pressure (IOP) spikes in a group of patients in whom we tried Endogel (3% sodium hyaluronate)-Viscum HMW (2% hydroxypropy-lmethylcellulose) combination. We compared the results of these patients with the IOPs of patients who were operated with the cohesive viscoelastic HealonGV (%1.4 sodium hyaluronate). Methods: We had retrospectively evaluated the IOP changes of 27 eyes of 26 patients and 302 eyes of 286 patients where Endogel-Viscum HMW and HealonGV were used respectively during small incision phaeoemulsification at Adnan Menderes University Department of Ophthalmology between June 1999 and April 2001. Data are analyzed with Wilcoxon, Mann-Whitney U and t-tests. Results: Two (7%), and 11 eyes (41%) in the Endogel-Viscum HMW group had IOPs bet¬ween 22-30mmHg, and (30mmHg at the postoperative 18-24 hours respectively. All the patients in the Endogel-Viscum HMW group except one had IOPs
