Abstract

Introduction: The disadvantages of the materials which used construction of removable or fixed dentures is that their esthetic, physical and mechanical properties change with time in the oral environment. For esthetic, color stability is one of the criteria that should need careful attention, color may provide important information on the serviceability of these materials. Color change effect the gloss of these materials. Aim: The aim of the present study was to determine the gloss changes resulting from the testing process in four different beverages in two type provisional resin materials that prepared with direct and indirect technique. Material and methods: Fifty specimens were fabricated for each material. Each specimen had one smooth polished surface. The gloss measurements were made with a glossmeter before testing. Four different beverages (tea, coffee, cola and cherry juice) were used for testing. Two different angles of illumination (20° and 60°) were used for the gloss measurements. The specimens were immersed in water, tea, coffee, cola and cherry juice solutions. Water is used as control group. Gloss of the specimens was measured again with the glossmeter at the end of the 10th days and 20th days of testing. The arithmetic means and standard deviations of each material were calculated and compared to each other statistically by using the Friedman Test, Wilcoxon Test, the Kruskal-Wallis Analysis ofVariance and the Mann-Whitney U-Test. Results: The results were statistically significant (p≤0.05 significant). Tea, coffee, cola and cherry juice solutions found to be effective in changing of gloss of provisional resin materials. Indirect provisional material demonstrated much more gloss change in different beverages than direct provisional material. Conclusion: It found that technique for provisional restoration is important for gloss protection.
