Abstract

Mathematical modeling perspectives were adopted towards the end of 1990 s in mathematics educa-tion. Research has shown that modeling approaches support students understanding of mathematics, develop-ing positive attitude and motivation towards mathematics, and improving the development of knowledge andskills with regard to transferring mathematics into real life (VDoerr ve English, 2003; English ve Watters, 2005;Verschafel, Greer ve De Corte, 1993). In this study, Lesh and Doerr s (2003) mathematical modeling perspectiveis aimed to be explained. In particular, models and mathematical modeling, modeling activities, their character-istics and the implementation of modeling in classroom settings are discussed.
