Abstract

The selfish and insensible use of the environment causes problems in the field of environment. As environmental problems adversely affect human life, new environmental policies have been developed. Within the framework of sustainable development and environmental policies, environmental incomes and expenditures have become more crucial. The understanding that environmental problems should be resolved at its primary location increases the responsibility and importance of local authorities. Local governments are primarily responsible and effective in solving the environmental problems that arise at the local level, especially as they are public entities that meet the common and local needs of the people. In the study, the environmental policies in Turkey and the duties, authorities and responsibilities of local governments related to environment are mentioned within the framework of sustainable development; the local government budget is examined in terms of environmental taxes and environmental expenditures
