Abstract

The rates of participation of women in workforce and employment is quite low. Women have a limited participation opportunity in workforce and employment, are focused on some specific jobs and work at low-status jobs for low wages. There are various reasons socio-demographic education , socio-cultural gender-based division of labor and cultural assets with patriarchal root and economical structural adjustment programmes for this situation. These factors shape the participation of women in labor market and working conditions. Microcredit, which was utilized in Bangladesh for the first time in the world, is seen as an important method to incorporate women in employment both throughout the world and in Turkey. The aim of this study is to analyze in specifically in Tokat province and find out whether the credit is effective on increasing women’s employment 225 women who are users of microcredit in Tokat were included in a face-to-face survey between 18th of November 2014-8th of January 2015 to this end. It was found out that women use micro-credit for their family’s consumption and urgent needs not for starting or developing a business. Findings of the study show credit is not an effective method for this purpose of giving poor women wage-earning employment by providing this credit and incorporating women in employment in Tokat province. Micro-credit method which has women’s restricted participation in employment and all negative effects of demographic, socio-cultural and socio-economical factors causing their secondary status compared to men in its nature cause women to have an extra economical burden beside their domestic work burden and a more fixed employment under unsafe conditions without social security and with low wage. Under these conditions it is not possible to say that micro-credit method contribute to increasing both quality and quantity of women’s employment
