Abstract

Dental anomalies are associated with hereditary, systemic, traumatic or local factors and are detected frequently during routine clinic and radiographic examinations. Hyperdontia is a term describing an excess in tooth number that can occur in both primary and permanent dentition and these extra teeth are called supernumerary teeth. The supernumerary teeth that occur in the palatal midline are referred to as mesiodens, those in the molar area are called paramolar teeth, and those that occur distally to the third molar are distomolar teeth. Supernumerary teeth are frequently rudimentary in shape and smaller in size and they are found more frequently in the maxilla than in the mandible. On this report four maxiller, one mandibular and one maxiller bilateral supernumerary molar teeth described. Intraoral and radyographic examination is important in evaluation of tooth number abnormalities.
