Abstract

This study examined the methodological and thematic characteristics of graduate theses completed in Türkiye between 2010 and 2025 on masculinity, masculine gender roles, and men's mental health or psychosocial experiences. Using a descriptive content analysis design, 18 theses (12 master’s, five medical specialization, one doctoral) meeting the inclusion criteria were analyzed from the Turkish Council of Higher Education National Thesis Center. The theses were predominantly concentrated in psychology and psychiatry, with only one classified under social work. Methodologically, 12 used quantitative and six used qualitative designs; research design was not explicitly reported in six theses, and sampling was unspecified in six. Research aims clustered into four main themes: masculinity norms, emotional experiences, and help-seeking; mental health and minority stress among sexual minority men; psychosocial experiences related to fatherhood and reproductive health; and masculinity crisis and life transitions. Results indicate that theses were concentrated in specific disciplines, methodologies, and topics, while doctoral-level and social work studies remained limited. Future research should increase methodological diversity, examine diverse groups of men, and inform gender-responsive social work practices.

İncelenen tezlerin 12’si yüksek lisans, 5’i tıpta uzmanlık ve 1’i doktora tezidir.
