Abstract
This study aims to comparatively examine the perceptions of violence among secondary school students, parents, and teachers across home, school, environmental, and digital dimensions. Employing a relational survey model, the study included 543 participants from the Bandırma district of Balıkesir. Data were collected via the violence perception questionnaires developed by the Ministry of National Education. The research findings indicate that while all stakeholders unequivocally define physical acts as violence, perceptions become increasingly blurred as the scope of violence shifts toward psychological, economic, and cyber domains. It was observed that parents tend to normalize domestic disciplinary methods, and teachers often view shouting in the classroom as an educational tool, thereby excluding these behaviors from their definition of violence. Students exhibited a higher tendency to normalize violence compared to adults, particularly struggling to categorize social exclusion and boundary violations in the digital world as violent acts. The most striking result of the study is that individuals who received violence awareness training were statistically significantly more successful in identifying invisible dimensions of violence than those who did not. This suggests that the perception of violence is not static and that perceptual blindness can be overcome through effective educational interventions. Consequently, to establish a safe school climate, the institutionalization of holistic awareness programs is recommended moving beyond physical security to encompass psychological and cyber violence.
