Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine university students studying in the field of health sciences in terms of their attitudes toward women and their attitudes toward violence against women. The study was conducted using a correlational survey design. A total of 586 students studying in the field of health sciences participated in the study. Data were collected through an online survey using a personal information form, the Attitudes Toward Women Scale, and the ISKEBE Attitudes Toward Violence Against Women Scale. According to the findings, significant differences were found in attitudes toward women and attitudes toward violence against women according to participants’ gender. Significant differences were also observed in the ISKEBE total score, attitudes toward the body subscale, and attitudes toward identity subscale according to the region of residence. In addition, attitudes toward women, ISKEBE total score, and attitudes toward identity scores differed significantly according to the type of high school from which participants graduated. No significant relationship was found between age and scale scores. However, it was determined that as positive and egalitarian attitudes toward women increased, the tendency to reject violence against women also increased. In conclusion, the study shows that health sciences students’ attitudes toward women and violence against women may differ according to variables such as gender, region of residence, and type of high school graduated from. The findings indicate that health sciences education programs should place greater emphasis on gender equality, recognition of violence against women, approaches to victims, and rights-based intervention
