Abstract

The problem addressed in this research is that traditional, teacher-centered, and lecture-heavy methods frequently used in Religious Culture and Moral Education (RCME) lessons limit students' higher-order thinking skills. Accordingly, this study aims to examine the experiences, perceptions, and meanings attributed to the Philosophy for Children (P4C) approach in classroom applications by 6th-grade DKAB teachers. Structured using a phenomenological design from qualitative research paradigms, the study involved semi-structured interviews with 20 DKAB teachers working in Kocaeli province, selected using purposeful sampling. The research findings reveal that teachers encounter structural and pedagogical obstacles such as a lack of philosophical knowledge, curriculum intensity, limited lesson time, and management difficulties in crowded classrooms. However, participants stated that the P4C method creates a democratic communication environment by relaxing the traditional hierarchy; and that it positively supports students' socio-affective skills such as critical thinking, empathy, self-confidence, and respect for different perspectives. In conclusion, it has been observed that the Philosophy for Children pedagogy offers an effective model for internalizing abstract religious and moral concepts; it is recommended that practical in-service training for teachers be increased to promote the widespread use of this method.

Özet

Bu araştırmanın problemini, Din Kültürü ve Ahlak Bilgisi (DKAB) derslerinde sıklıkla başvurulan geleneksel, öğretmen merkezli ve anlatım ağırlıklı yöntemlerin öğrencilerin üst düzey düşünme becerilerini sınırlaması oluşturmaktadır. Bu doğrultuda çalışma, ortaokul 6. sınıf DKAB öğretmenlerinin Çocuklarla Felsefe (P4C) yaklaşımına dayalı sınıf içi uygulamalara ilişkin deneyimlerini, algılarını ve bu sürece yükledikleri anlamları incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Nitel araştırma paradigmalarından fenomenolojik desenle yapılandırılan çalışmada, Kocaeli ilinde görev yapan ve amaçlı örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenen 20 DKAB öğretmeni ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma bulguları; öğretmenlerin felsefi bilgi eksikliği, müfredat yoğunluğu, kısıtlı ders süreleri ve kalabalık sınıflarda yaşanan yönetim güçlükleri gibi yapısal ve pedagojik engellerle karşılaştıklarını ortaya koymaktadır. Bununla birlikte katılımcılar, P4C yönteminin geleneksel hiyerarşiyi esneterek demokratik bir iletişim ortamı kurduğunu; öğrencilerin eleştirel düşünme, empati, özgüven ve farklı bakış açılarına saygı gibi sosyal-duyuşsal becerilerini olumlu yönde desteklediğini ifade etmişlerdir. Sonuç olarak, Çocuklarla Felsefe pedagojisinin soyut dini ve ahlaki kavramların içselleştirilmesinde etkili bir model sunduğu görülmüş; yöntemin yaygınlaştırılması için öğretmenlere yönelik uygulamalı hizmet içi eğitimlerin artırılması önerilmiştir.
