Abstract
This study examines the processes through which female dentists entered the profession in the history of Turkish dentistry, the social and institutional barriers they encountered, and their contributions to the development of the profession. While it was not possible for women to receive education in medicine and dentistry during the Ottoman period due to legal restrictions, access to higher education for women increased rapidly with the establishment of the Republic. In this context, Ayşe Şadiye Güvendiren and Hatice Azra Hanım stand out as the first Turkish women to receive and complete dental education in Türkiye. Both figures made significant contributions to the development of the profession not only through their clinical achievements but also through their pioneering stance toward gender equality. The findings indicate that the presence of women in the history of Turkish dentistry has enhanced professional diversity and made important contributions to public health.
