Abstract
Cinema is affected by the social and cultural structure of society. The social processes that cinema addresses are made visible by being presented to society again through visual and audio materials. The paths of cinema and sociology intersect in terms of addressing society. Cinema reflects the cultural structure of society through movies and offers sociology the opportunity to observe at this stage. Widowhood, which occurs with death and divorce, is a sign of important problems for women, although these problems vary according to the cultural structure of societies. Although the phenomenon of elderly widows is not a subject that is covered very often in cinema, it is reflected from different perspectives in the works. As a cultural activity reflecting social issues, cinema presents us with different interpretations of the problems experienced by elderly widows in society. Thus, the subject of our research was to describe the perception of the elderly widow through the representation of the elderly widow in movies. The position of elderly widows in society and the problems they face are discussed through their representation in Şerif Gören’s cinema. Our research aims to sociologically address the social problems experienced by elderly widows and their place in the family and society. In this respect, the appearance of the elderly widow in society within the framework of the cinema-sociology relationship adds importance to the research. The research is limited to the widow characters in the films directed by Şerif Gören. Content analysis technique was used in our study, which is qualitative research.

Sinema, toplumun sosyal ve kültürel yapısından etkilenmektedir. Sinemanın ele aldığı toplumsal süreçler, görsel ve işitsel materyaller üzerinden tekrar topluma sunularak görünürlük kazandırmaktadır. Sinema ve sosyolojinin toplumu ele alması konusunda yolları kesişir. Sinema, filmler aracılığıyla toplumun kültürel yapısını yansıtmakta ve sosyolojiye bu aşamada gözlem yapma imkânı sunmaktadır. Ölüm ve boşanma ile ortaya çıkan dulluk, kadınlar için toplumların kültürel yapısına göre değişmekle birlikte önemli sorunların habercisidir. Sinemada yaşlı dul kadın olgusu çok sık işlenmiş bir konu olmamakla birlikte, eserlerde farklı bakış açılarıyla yansıtılmıştır. Toplumsal konuları yansıtan kültürel bir etkinlik olarak sinema, yaşlı dul kadının toplumda yaşamış olduğu sorunları farklı yorumlamalarla karşımıza çıkarmaktadır. Böylece, yaşlı dul kadın konusunun filmlerdeki temsili üzerinden yaşlı dul kadın algısının betimlenmesi, araştırmanın konusu oluşturmuştur. Yaşlı dul kadınların toplumdaki konumları ve karşılaştıkları sorunlar, Şerif Gören sinemasındaki temsilleri üzerinden incelenmiştir. Araştırma, yaşlı dul kadının yaşamış olduğu problemleri, aile ve toplum içindeki yerini sinema üzerinden sosyolojik olarak ele almayı amaçlamaktadır. Bu açıdan, sinema-sosyoloji ilişkisi çerçevesinde yaşlı dul kadının sinemadaki görünümü araştırmaya önem katmaktadır. Araştırma, Şerif Gören’ in yönetmenliğini yaptığı, belirtilen filmlerdeki dul kadın karakterle ile sınırlıdır. Nitel bir araştırma olan çalışmada içerik analizi tekniği kullanılmıştır.
