Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of structured occupational therapy intervention on functional independence, balance, and parental care burden in a 4.5-year-old case with Sotos syndrome. Method: The intervention program was planned for two sessions per week over five weeks. The Canadian Activity Performance Scale (CAPS), Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFIM), Pediatric Berg Balance Scale (PBBS), and Zarit Caregiver Burden Scale (CBBS) were used for the assessments. Findings: The CAPS score increased from 4.6 before the intervention to 7.2 after the intervention; the WeeFIM score increased from 77 to 92; the PBS score increased from 41 to 50; and the ZBS score decreased from 57 to 46. After the intervention, significant improvements were observed in the child's self-care skills, motor planning, attention, and balance control. Conclusion: The findings indicate that structured occupational therapy intervention supports functional development and reduces parental care burden in children with Sotos syndrome. The application of occupational therapy with a holistic approach may be effective in developing the daily living skills of these children.
