Abstract

With the integration of technology into daily life, digital screen use has significantly increased in recent years. Technological devices, which have become indispensable for adults, greatly attract children's attention. While screen use can serve as a facilitating tool in various areas for children trying to satisfy their curiosity and interests, inappropriate and excessive use can also lead to negative consequences. In such cases, children may develop dependence on screens. In preschool children, who are in a critical early developmental period, screen exposure has been shown to contribute to developmental delays, particularly in physical, cognitive, and psychosocial domains. In this context, educating and raising awareness among parents to prevent excessive and inappropriate use of technological devices, developing early intervention opportunities, and establishing limits on children's technology use will play a key role in increasing societal awareness regarding screen exposure — a significant public health concern that needs to be addressed. This review conceptually examines the effects of screen exposure on the physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development of preschool children and discusses preventive measures, within the framework of the existing literature.
