Abstract

This article examines various versions of the "Good Samaritan" scenes in five manuscripts dating back to the Byzantine era: Codex Rossano, Sacra Pecallarela, BnF Grec 510, Plut. Laur. 6.23, and BnF Grec 74. The Parable of the Good Samaritan revolves around a man who is beaten, robbed, and left dead on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho. A Samaritan comes across him, helps him, and takes him to an inn, where he pays for his care. This story has enabled scenes to be shaped by different interpretations of each artist in every manuscript. For example, while the Samaritan figure is depicted as Jesus in the Codex Rossano and BnF Grec 510 manuscripts, in others, it is within the narrative identity of the Good Samaritan mentioned in the text. In BnF Grec 74, the story of the Good Samaritan is considered the most comprehensive example in terms of the narrative scope. The scene encompasses both the Codex Rossano and the BnF Grec 510 characteristics. This study elucidates the various interpretations and evolution of the story through a detailed analysis of the portrayal of the Good Samaritan in different manuscripts, from a scientific perspective
