İlk bölümde imamın tayini ya da nasbına değinmekte; ikinci bölümde imam seçilecek kimsede aranan şartlara ve imamın meşrûiyeti konu edilmektedir. Son bölümde ise efdaliyet tartışmaları ve tarihi tecrübenin meşrûiyeti konuları irdelenmektedir. Özdinç’in eseri sadece Sünni siyaset tasavvuruna dair değil bütün farklı ve zengin çizgileriyle genel manada İslam siyaset düşüncesinin temellerini öğrenmek isteyenler için önemli, referans sayılabilecek bir çalışmadır.
