Abstract

The rapid advancements in artificial intelligence technologies are causing significant transformations in accounting education, as well as in the accounting profession. The widespread adoption of digitalization, automation, big data analytics, and artificial intelligence applications necessitates a reassessment of traditional teaching approaches in accounting education. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to determine the importance levels of the key criteria influencing the transformation of accounting education in the age of artificial intelligence. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, a multi-criteria decision-making method, was used in the research. Based on a literature review and expert opinions, five key criteria influencing the transformation of accounting education were identified. These criteria were classified as: educational opportunities, ethical and academic risks, curriculum transformation, institutional infrastructure, and professional competence. A pairwise comparison matrix was created based on evaluations obtained from expert academics, and the weights of the criteria were calculated. According to the analysis results, curriculum transformation was determined to be the most important criterion in the transformation of accounting education. This is followed by ethical and academic risks, professional competence, educational opportunities, and institutional infrastructure, respectively. The findings reveal that for successful integration of artificial intelligence into accounting education, course content must first be restructured to align with current technologies. Furthermore, improving students' digital skills, managing ethical risks, and making teaching processes technology-supported are also fundamental elements of this transformation process. The research concludes that AI-supported accounting education will evolve into a more effective, practical, and student-centered structure in the future.
