Abstract

This study aims to address the integration of three-dimensional (3D) software into artistic production processes not merely as a technical transformation of tools, but as a holistic paradigm shift that restructures the methodological, aesthetic, and ontological foundations of art practices. A review of the literature reveals that studies on 3D technologies predominantly focus on the technical mechanics of the software or examine artistic outputs in a fragmented manner, detached from an interdisciplinary context; consequently, the relationship between technical evolution and artistic transformation has not been sufficiently analyzed within a comprehensive framework. The primary objective of this study is to comparatively examine the historical development of 3D software through its modes of integration into diverse art disciplines—such as sculpture, architecture, cinema, painting, graphic design, and performing arts—and to elucidate the impacts of this integration on production processes, aesthetic decision-making mechanisms, and audience reception from an interdisciplinary perspective. The research is structured in accordance with the qualitative research approach, employing document analysis and comparative disciplinary analysis methods in tandem. The dataset comprises foundational texts on the history of 3D/CAD and computer graphics, academic publications discussing the artistic integration of 3D software, and the literature on qualitative content analysis. In the analysis of data, a qualitative content analysis method incorporating both deductive and inductive stages was applied, wherein each art discipline was evaluated within the framework of identical analytical questions. The findings demonstrate that 3D software does not exert a homogeneous effect on art; rather, each discipline generates distinct modes of transformation based on its historical, ontological, and functional conditions. While integration becomes more pronounced at the level of production and ontology in sculpture and architecture, the dimensions of perception and experience come to the fore in cinema and graphic design. In painting and performing arts, theoretical tensions intensify around materiality, vitality, and regimes of representation. By addressing the integration of 3D software within an interdisciplinary and comparative framework, this study offers an original contribution to the literature and presents a critical and balanced evaluation of the relationship between art and technology.
