Abstract

The fire, which has been kept under control since ancient times, is destroying our historical values as well as breaking down our past dependency. It composes a great risk especially for buildings where wooden materials are heavily used. In this context, the scope of our work constitutes the Kuyucak Village Mosque, which was located in Eskisehir, Odunpazarı, Kuyucak Village and built in the period of the Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamit II, and all of the wooden overlap ceilings and sections were burnt as a result of the fire in 2011. In our study, Construction techniques and types of wooden overlap ceilings are explained. The geographical location and historical development of Kuyucak Village, the history of Kuyucak Village Mosque, the changes that have been experienced up to date, the present situation and architectural features have been examined. In addition, the pre-fire situation, the damage caused by the fire, and the changes that occurred with the restoration applied after the fire have been examined and evaluated. The most important problem that arises in the evaluation results is that this ceiling is transformed into a ceiling carried by a steel construction in the application and restoration project of the mosque without respecting the original wooden overlay ceiling construction technique during the restoration process. The aim of this study is to emphasize the importance of documenting our historical structures, the necessity of the reconstruction works overlap with the original structure, and the measures to prevent the danger of fire threatening them to be transferred to the future without losing the original values of them.
