Abstract

This study aims to reveal the goal frames in the mini-film commercial narrative and in the comments about the commercial on social media platforms. In line with this purpose, the study analyzes the mini-film commercial titled “Red Light”, in which Citroën Türkiye humorously encourages not to honk at red lights through the use of a comedian influencer while implicitly placing the product features of the Berlingo model in the mini-film commercial narrative, and the Instagram and YouTube comments made about this commercial, drawing on the Goal Framing Theory. The findings of the study, which analyzed the brand's 4-minute-37-second commercial as well as 395 Instagram and 1273 YouTube comments made to this commercial in the MAXQDA 2024 program according to the theory's "purpose", "gain" and "normative" goal frames, showed that the commercial efficiently used goal frames together, that YouTube comments were compatible with hedonic and normative frames, while Instagram comments contained more gain and hedonic frames, and that although the comments on both platforms differed in terms of goal frames, they could be similar due to the fact that the comments contained expressions reflecting the influencer's humorous discourse. The study, which concluded that Goal Framing Theory offers a useful perspective for analyzing both a narrative containing persuasive messages and the ways in which users interpret and evaluate this type of narrative in different digital environments, also includes some managerial inferences based on the findings. Suggestions are made for future studies based on the research limitations.
