Abstract

This study aimed to examine sports sciences students’ anxiety toward scientific online research and its associations with gender, age, career planning, perceived usefulness of scientific research, and social media use duration. Using a relational survey model, data were collected from 550 students enrolled in the Faculties of Sports Sciences at Kırıkkale University, Pamukkale University, and Hacettepe University. Data were obtained using the Anxiety Scale for Scientific Online Research and a personal information form. Group differences were examined through independent-samples t-tests and one-way analysis of variance, while the relationships among social media use, perceived usefulness of scientific research, career planning, and anxiety were analyzed using logistic and linear regression analyses. Male students, those aged 18–21, those without career plans, and those who did not perceive scientific research as useful reported higher anxiety scores. Students using social media for more than five hours also had higher anxiety scores. Online research anxiety was associated with digital leisure, perceptions of research, and career planning.
