Abstract
This study aims to investigate students’ views on creative reading activities implemented in the third-grade Life Science course. A qualitative case study design was employed. The study group consisted of nine volunteer third-grade students who participated in creative reading activities during the 2023–2024 academic year in province X. Data were collected through a Semi-Structured Interview Form developed to evaluate creative reading practices and were analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that, beyond the predominantly Turkish course–focused creative reading studies in the literature, implementing creative reading activities in the Life Science course contributed to students’ development of reading habits and positive attitudes toward the course. Furthermore, students’ willingness to apply these activities to other subjects such as Science and Mathematics suggests that creative reading should be considered not only a language skill but also an interdisciplinary learning strategy. In this context, the widespread use of creative reading practices in courses such as Life Science, which incorporate knowledge drawn from everyday life, can be aimed at strengthening students’ social–emotional skills while simultaneously maximizing their cognitive production potential. This study was conducted within the scope of the third-grade Life Science course and was therefore limited to this context. Including different grade levels in the sample may diversify the data obtained. In addition, since the study collected data based on participants’ views, incorporating performance-based data may yield different results. In order to make the Life Science course more dynamic and engaging, in-service training programs can be provided for classroom teachers on how to integrate creative reading techniques into their lessons.
