Abstract
The publication of classical texts written in the field of Turkish literature has gained momentum, especially from the second half of the 20th century onwards; numerous works from the Anatolian region, as well as from the Chagatai, Kipchak, and Khorezm regions, have been published using scholarly methods and made available to researchers. Today, it can be said that a considerable body of published works representing different periods and fields of Turkish literature has been formed. However, it is noteworthy that some of these publishing activities have been limited to merely reading and transcribing the text, without sufficient examination of the text's content, authorship logic, author, context of writing, and intended audience. In particular, many master's and doctoral theses prioritize the publication of the text; conversely, the literary, intellectual, and historical contexts of the texts are not examined in detail. This situation has led to the inability to accurately determine the place of some works within the history of Turkish literature and to establish clear judgments about who wrote some texts, for what purpose, and to which audience they were addressed. One of the works that deserves attention in this context is Tuhfetü’s-Selâtîn, found in a manuscript registered under Add. 7914 in the British Museum in England, with only one copy, located between pages 23b-49b. This work was studied in 1994 as part of a master's thesis prepared by Nevnihal Bayar under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Kemal Eraslan; however, in this study, the author of the text, its purpose, its content, and the reasons for and sources of the selected verses could not be determined. The study, which suggested that the copyist of the text was unknown, that the work had the characteristics of an anthology, that it was written to please Hüseyin Baykara, and that it included the works of the sultan and his close associates, only presented the text and prepared a detailed index. However, when the text itself is examined, especially in the introduction, it is seen that the author clearly states the reasons and methods of composing the work, the name he gave to the work, to whom it was dedicated, and his connection with Alî Şîr Nevâyî during its creation. In this research note, we will argue that this work should be attributed to Ali Shir Navayi in Turkish literature because of its known connection to him and perhaps because it is a selection from his works.
