Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the relationship, agreement, and perception–report discrepancy between perceived physical activity and self-reported physical activity determined using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire–Short Form (IPAQ-SF) among students enrolled in a faculty of sport sciences. A total of 200 undergraduate students from a public university voluntarily participated in this cross-sectional study. Data were collected using a Demographic Information Form, the Perceived Physical Activity Scale, and the IPAQ-SF. Paired-samples t-test, Pearson correlation analysis, Bland–Altman analysis, independent-samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance, and multiple linear regression analysis were performed. The findings revealed a moderate positive relationship between perceived physical activity and self-reported physical activity. Participants generally tended to overestimate their physical activity levels compared with their IPAQ-SF reports, and Bland–Altman analysis demonstrated a slight systematic overestimation bias (mean difference = 0.39). Furthermore, perceived physical activity was identified as a significant predictor of self-reported physical activity. These findings indicate that although perceived physical activity is associated with physical activity behavior, self-perception alone is insufficient for accurately evaluating physical activity levels. Therefore, combining self-perception with standardized physical activity assessment tools may provide a more comprehensive and reliable evaluation of physical activity behavior.
