Abstract

Within the conceptual framework of ethnic groups and language contact, in this study, we introduce a proposal for an electronic dictionary preparation, using the corpus of Cankiri Posha language as an example. Poshas are an ethnic group who live in isolation in the Alibey Disctrict of Cankiri city and are known to non-group members as Cingan, Elekci or Bohcaci. As a result of our fieldwork, it is established that Poshas speak a different language within their community, which is not a variant of Turkish. However, there are limited resources with regard to the vocabulary of this bilingual community. The current proposal to create an electronic dictionary for the Posha language will be the first initiative to address this issue. For bilingual and language contact issues, it is important to save and analyze language resources that are collected as a result of fieldwork. These resources should also be shared electronically with other scholars in the field. Through the current Posha electronic dictionary preparation, we aim to contribute to fieldwork studies, especially in methodology, data storage and analysis. In addition, this study will establish a model for the vocabulary documentation of identified endangered languages spoken in Turkey.
