As the interaction of the Otttoman Empire with the West intensified in the nineteenth century there is a notable increase in the publication of newspapers and journals. Initially, these periodicals focused on contemporary politics and the lifestyle; however, over time they began to differentiate in terms of both content and structure. Gradually, the aims and functions of journals came to reflect the intellectual milieu of their publishers. Occasionally, intellectuals supported these magazines united around a particular ideology and, at other times, they generated novice ideas. Sezai Karakoç’s Şiir Sanatı magazine, first published in 1955, holds significance as it featured both the prevailing poetic sensibilities of the era and exemplary works of poetry. Batı ile ilişkilerin artmasına paralel olarak, Türk edebiyatında 19. yüzyılda gazete ve dergilerin sayısında artış gözlemlenmiştir. Başlangıçta dönemin siyasetinden ve yaşam şartlarından bahseden bu yayın organları, daha sonraları içerik ve işleyiş bakımından birbirlerinden ayrılmıştır. Gün geçtikçe dergilerin hedefleri ve rolleri, dergiyi çıkaran şahsiyetin düşünce dünyasının bir temsili olmuştur. Bunun yanında bu dergiler çevresinde toplanan isimler kimi zaman bir düşünce etrafında birleşmiş kimi zaman da bir düşünceyi üretmişlerdir. Sezai Karakoç’un 1955 yılında çıkardığı Şiir Sanatı dergisi, dönemin şiir anlayışını ve şiir örneklerini yayınlayan bir dergi olması sebebiyle önemlidir.
