Abstract

In contemporary society, artificial intelligence technologies have become an integral part of individuals’ lives in many areas, including social relations, academia, healthcare services, commerce, industry, education and infrastructure support. This study examines how social awareness, knowledge levels, trust, and perceptions of artificial intelligence are shaped in Türkiye, using data from the Artificial Intelligence Index Report 2025 and Türkiye’s Social Map: TGSS 2024. The research results show that a large proportion of society in Türkiye is familiar with the concept of artificial intelligence. However, despite this high level of awareness, the depth of individuals’ knowledge regarding artificial intelligence remains limited. According to the research findings, as the education level increases, awareness, positive evaluation, and acceptance of artificial intelligence increase significantly. In terms of gender, the results reveal a differentiated pattern, with men displaying more positive attitudes, while women tend to adopt a more cautious approach toward artificial intelligence. On the other hand, the influence of the urban factor remains relatively limited in terms of settlement type and regional differences. Research results show that individuals’ perceptions of artificial intelligence are largely related to education and digital literacy. In conclusion, societal perception of artificial intelligence in Türkiye is a complex structure that carries both hope and anxiety. There is high interest in technological developments and strong expectations of transformation within society. However, individuals exhibit a cautious approach due to uncertainties regarding ethical, legal, and privacy issues. Strengthening education, digital literacy, and ethical regulations is crucial for institutionalizing trust in artificial intelligence.
