Abstract
Social media has become a significant element in today's world, directly affecting individuals' daily lives, communication styles, and information acquisition processes. The aim of this research is to reveal the perceptions of public relations and publicity students, who are part of Generation Z, towards the TikTok platform. Determining how Generation Z interprets TikTok is important not only for understanding the ways the platform is used, but also for understanding users' digital experiences. The research employed metaphor analysis, a qualitative research method. In this context, the metaphors developed by students regarding TikTok were grouped into two categories: positive (64) and negative (40). The analyses were carried out on a total of 104 metaphors deemed valid. Positive metaphors were evaluated under the themes of entertainment and socialization, basic needs, information acquisition tool, and memory collection; while negative metaphors were evaluated under the themes of addiction and time loss. The findings show that TikTok is perceived by students not only as a tool for entertainment and socialization, but also for its functions of information acquisition and memory collection. However, it was concluded that students were aware of the negative effects of the platform, such as addiction and wasted time.
