Abstract

This study aims to demonstrate how individual artistic pursuit transforms into collective ensemble music through a contemporary interpretation, by examining the links that artistic subjectivity and instrumental independence establish with traditional structures. Accordingly, kemenche master İhsan Özgen was selected as the subject, and his process of constructing an independent artistic identity outside institutional frameworks, along with the contemporary musical concepts he developed in this direction, was analyzed. Centring on instrumental virtuosity, the projects produced by the artist carved out a new space for collective production processes and individual artistic agency. The scope of the study is defined by the TRT Radio trio performances, Çekirdek Sanat Evi recitals, and the Bosphorus and Anatolia ensembles, which represent a interconnected trajectory in Özgen's musical chronology between 1974 and 1995, marking a transition from radio discipline to an independent chamber music framework. This chronological framework explains how instrumental music evolved from an oral tradition into a chamber music model.
