Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate specialty theses in dentistry completed in the field of Prosthodontics in Türkiye between 2015 and 2025 in terms of topic distribution, bibliographic characteristics, and demographic variables. Materials and Methods: On 26 November 2025, an “advanced search” was performed in the National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education using the following filters: department “Prosthodontics,” thesis type “specialty in dentistry,” and years “2015–2025.” A total of 721 theses were included. The following variables were recorded in a table using Microsoft Excel: author sex, thesis year, advisor rank and sex, keywords, thesis topic, university name and type, the city and geographic region of the university, and thesis language. Thesis topics were classified under 10 predefined main categories. Associations between variables were assessed using the chi-square test, and the keyword co-occurrence network was analyzed using VOSviewer (v1.6.20). Results: Of the thesis authors, 67.7% were female (n=488) and 32.3% were male (n=233). Advisors were 51.3% male (n=370) and 48.7% female (n=351). Advisor ranks were Professor 48.4% (n=349), Associate Professor 29.3% (n=211), and Assistant Professor 22.3% (n=161). The highest number of theses was observed in 2022 (n=136; 18.9%). The most frequently preferred thesis topic was “biomechanics and finite element stress analysis” (n=202; 28.0%). A significant association was found between author sex and advisor sex (p=0.003); significant differences were observed between thesis topic and advisor rank (p=0.001), and between geographic region and thesis topic (p=0.018). In keyword analysis, the most frequent terms were “dental,” “dental materials,” and “CAD/CAM,” and the network structure clustered around the “restoration–materials–CAD/CAM–implant” axis. Conclusion: Prosthodontics specialty theses demonstrate distinct topic trends; biomechanics-related analyses predominate, and topic distribution varies according to advisor characteristics and geographic variables.
