Abstract

SUMMARY ‘The Relationship Between 18th-24th Gestational Weeks Placenta Location and Maternal Factors and Evaluation of the Effect of Placenta Location to Pregnancy Outcomes’ Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between second trimester placenta location and maternal factors and also to predict the effect of placental location on pregnancy outcomes Material and Methods:753 patients aged between 18-45 years, who gave birthbetween 2016 -2018 in Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Atatürk Education and Research Hospital, are included the study. The second trimester placental ocation was retrospectively examined according to medical records. Placenta locations were grouped as ‘High Anterior’, ‘Anterior Inferior’, ‘High Posterior’ and ‘Posterior Inferior’. Then, the relationship between plasenta location and maternal factors and pregnancy outcomes were evaluated. Results: Positive correlation was found between posterior inferior location of placenta and maternal age, gravidity and parity numbers (p<0,05). Placenta was more frequently localized to the anterior wall of uterus in smokers (p<0,05). It was found that primary cesarean rate were higher in inferior placentations than high uterin placentations (p<0,05). In our study, no significant relationship was found between placenta location and birth weight and obstetric complications rates such as preeclampsia and preterm delivery. Conclusion: Maternal factors may affect the location of the placenta. The location of the placenta in the second trimester may help to predict some of pregnancy outcomes like way of delivery. However, multicenter big cohort trials with more patients should be performed.
