Abstract

Abstract Introduction: The One Health concept is emerging as a current topic with globally targeted goals. Considering the fundamental concepts of nursing science—human, environment, health, and disease—it is evident that they are closely related to the One Health approach. A situational assessment is crucial in studies within nursing science that are linked to the One Health concept. Aim: This study aims to examine thesis studies registered in the Turkish Higher Education Council Thesis Center system, considering the strong interaction between the One Health approach and the nursing profession. Methods: The study population consisted of dissertations conducted in all scientific disciplines between 1950 and 2025 and registered with the Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education. The keywords "One Health" were used. In the retrospective descriptive literature review, 4 master's theses, 1 doctoral thesis, and 1 medical specialization thesis were identified as of 2020. A summary was made based on the analysis of the data. Results: Of the theses reviewed, 3 master's and medical specialization theses were conducted using cross-sectional descriptive methods, 1 master's thesis using descriptive and semi-structured interviews, and the doctoral thesis using methodological methods. Three of the master's theses were conducted in the One Health, Pharmaceutical Microbiology, and Public Health departments of the Institutes of Health Sciences, one in the Food Safety department of the Institute of Science, the doctoral thesis in the Environmental Health department of the Institute of Health Sciences, and the medical specialization thesis in the Family Medicine department. Conclusion: Although it was determined that the number of postgraduate theses examining the concept of One Health in our country is limited, it was observed that different scientific disciplines are conducting studies on One Health, albeit slowly, but that postgraduate-level studies related to nursing science have not yet begun. It is recommended that nursing education be made effective at the undergraduate, graduate, and clinical levels regarding the One Health concept, which is closely related to the fundamental concepts of nursing.
