Abstract

This study aims to examine the influence of highly visible chefs in the media on students who choose the culinary profession. The study was conducted with associate degree students enrolled in the Culinary Arts Program at Yozgat Bozok University, and data were collected using a questionnaire survey. A census sampling approach was employed with the aim of reaching the entire population. The findings reveal that students are influenced by media-presented chefs in their career choices and draw inspiration from these figures. Furthermore, participants demonstrated a strong interest in chefs who produce content on social media during their career planning processes and reported learning various recipes, cooking techniques, and dishes from different cultures through these chefs. By highlighting the influence of media figures within the context of gastronomy education and career orientation, this study seeks to contribute to the existing literature. Based on the findings, several recommendations are provided for practitioners and future research. However, the limited diversity of the study group in terms of gender, age, and ethnic background reduces the generalizability of the results. Therefore, future studies are encouraged to investigate the influence of chefs across different gender groups and media platforms.
