Abstract

On February 6, 2023, Mw 7.8 (Pazarcık), Mw 7.6 (Elbistan) earthquakes associated with DAFZ and ÖDFZ occurred in southeastern Turkey and the Eastern Mediterranean, and on February 20, 2023, the Mw 6.4 (Hatay) earthquake; approximately 15 million people in 11 provinces were affected by the earthquakes. Numerous research and studies have been conducted by different scientific disciplines regarding the mentioned earthquakes. This study aims to determine post-earthquake surface deformations using InSAR techniques and to contribute to seismic risk analysis. The focus of this research is to accurately determine the spatial and temporal surface deformations that occurred after the earthquakes. Earthquake-induced deformations, called seismites, can illuminate a region's paleoseismic history and provide important clues about the magnitudes of future earthquakes in that region. In this study, based on Satellite-Based Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) data, radar interferometry (InSAR) techniques were used to monitor the results of surface deformations over wide areas. The obtained Interferogram visuals and findings show a maximum of approximately 2.22 m LOS displacement along the fault lines (range from -0.13 m subsidence to +2.22 m uplift). It is possible to associate the deformation in the Kahramanmaraş-centered area (Pazarcık, Elbistan, etc.) with alluvial fill and basin effects. The obtained data can be used as critical data layers for urban planning, risk reduction, and disaster management by concretizing the spatial destruction and energy release of the earthquake sequence.
