Abstract

Video game film adaptations are increasingly visible products of the global creative industries, yet their performance is often assessed through isolated indicators such as box office revenue, critic reviews, or audience scores. This study proposes a multi-criteria decision-making framework to evaluate the commercial and reception-based performance of theatrical video game film adaptations. A dataset of 39 films released between 1993 and 2025 was constructed using production budget, worldwide gross, return ratio, Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer, Metacritic Metascore, and CinemaScore. CRITIC was used to derive objective information weights, and TOPSIS was applied to rank the films. Production budget has the highest CRITIC information weight, while Pokémon: The First Movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Five Nights at Freddy’s are the top-ranked films. Robustness checks show that the ranking differs from box-office-only evaluation but remains broadly stable across alternative specifications. The results offer a transparent benchmark for adaptation research and creative-industry decisions.

Temel modelde Pokémon: The First Movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie ve Five Nights at Freddy’s ilk üç sırada yer almaktadır.
