With the proclamation of the Republic, urban spaces became key instruments in efforts to create a modern society. In this process, the planning and design of open and green spaces played a significant role in fostering a healthy society and livable environments, while the discipline of landscape architecture gained strategic importance. One of the prominent figures in the development and institutionalization of landscape architecture—whose roots trace back to the Tanzimat period—was Prof. Dr. Yüksel Öztan. This study aims to examine the life, works, and professional approaches of Prof. Dr. Yüksel Öztan (1933–2010), a distinguished scholar in his field, within the framework of a biographical research approach. Using qualitative research methods such as document analysis and semi-structured interviews, the study reveals Öztan’s contributions to the profession of landscape architecture, his academic impact, institutional contributions, and the projects he produced. Öztan adopted a professional and educational philosophy centered on environmental ethics and public interest, emphasizing environmentally conscious approaches and interdisciplinary collaboration. As an educator, he served as an inspirational role model for his students and became a significant figure in advancing landscape architecture education and enhancing the visibility of the profession through his projects and written works. Cumhuriyet’in ilanıyla birlikte kentsel mekanlar, modern bir toplum yaratma girişimlerinin başlıca araçları olmuşlardır. Bu süreçte açık ve yeşil alan planlama ve tasarımı, sağlıklı bir toplum ve yaşanabilir çevreler yaratmada önemli bir rol oynarken, peyzaj mimarlığı daha stratejik bir öneme sahip olmuştur. Kökeni tanzimat dönemine kadar uzanan Peyzaj mimarlığı disiplininin gelişimi ve kurumsallaşmasında çalışmalarıyla öne çıkan isimlerden biri de Prof. Dr. Yüksel Öztan olmuştur. Bu çalışmada, alanında saygın bir bilim insanı olan Prof. Dr. Yüksel Öztan'ın (1933-2010) hayatı, eserleri ve mesleki yaklaşımlarının biyografik bir araştırma çerçevesinde incelenmesi amaçlamaktadır.
