Abstract

In this study, the Consumer Activism Motivation Scale (CAMS), developed by Muraro (2023), was adapted into Turkish and its psychometric properties were evaluated in a Turkish sample. With the widespread adoption of digitalization and social media, consumer activism has become a significant force shaping businesses’ ethical, social, and environmental practices. The scale measures the motivational goals underlying consumers’ activist behaviors and consists of five subscales: Brand Punishment, Company Reform, Consumer Responsibility, Network Solidarity, and Virtuous Self. The adaptation process followed systematic cross-cultural procedures, including forward translation, back-translation, expert evaluation, and content validity assessments conducted by three language and three field experts, followed by a pilot study. To examine structural validity, exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were applied to two independent samples. EFA was conducted on the first sample (n = 263), while CFA was performed on a second independent sample (n = 250). The findings confirm that the original five-factor structure was replicated in the Turkish sample. Internal consistency coefficients ranged from 0.854 to 0.912, indicating high reliability. CFA fit indices confirmed acceptable model fit. The Turkish Form of the Consumer Activism Motivation Scale demonstrates valid and reliable psychometric properties within the Turkish cultural context. This study addresses a gap in the measurement of consumer activism motivations in Türkiye and offers a methodological contribution for future research.
