Abstract

Sustainable development, which is a combination of the concepts of sustainable and development, is a paradigm aims at economic growth, social development and the protection of the ecosystem. In a broader sense, sustainable development has emerged as a set of goals aimed at the effective and fair use of natural resources, increasing the quality of life and well-being of individuals, reducing poverty, increasing sustainable economic resources, and ensuring that individuals reach quality education in an equal and fair manner. Sustainable development was firstly introduced within the report of the United Nations Joint Commission on Environment and Development, and its importance is being discussed in different fields such as economy, sociology, environment and climate. UNESCO mentioned 17 basic sub-components as indicators of sustainable development and emphasized the importance of quality education as both a tool and a result for sustainable development. Qualified education, which plays a key role in the realization of sustainable development, is a concept consisting of multidimensional components. Equal access to education, lifelong learning and inclusive education are appeared as the most main components of quality education. Quality education plays an important role in raising individuals who will support sustainable development by improving the knowledge, skills and social values of individuals. In Turkey, MEB has initiated various activities at national and international levels to ensure quality education. Efforts to enrich and disseminate these activities need to be increased. From this point of view, the aim of this study is to explain the basic components of quality education and to reveal the importance of qualified education for sustainable development.
