Abstract

This study aimed to examine the mathematics identity perceptions of pre-service primary school teachers according to their conceptual and operational approaches to problem-solving. This study, in which the survey method, one of the quantitative research methods, was used, was conducted with 244 pre-service primary school teachers studying at two universities in Türkiye. “Conceptual/Operational Approach to Problem-Solving Scale” and “Mathematic Identity Scale” were used to collect data. The collected data were analyzed with the SPSS 22 program. The study concluded that pre-service primary school teachers had a moderate level of mathematics identity perception, that pre-service primary school teachers’ perceptions of mathematics identity did not differ according to gender and grade variables, they used more operational approaches to problem-solving, and that pre-service primary school teachers’ mathematical identity perceptions differed significantly in favor of pre-service teachers with the operational approach.
